In this proposal, the existing solid masonry fa?ade of 225 Broadway, originally built in 1927, is cladded over by a new energy-efficient rain screen fa?ade.
The new fa?ade celebrates the building’s privileged location at the entrance to City Hall Park, correcting the building’s deteriorated weather resistance and significantly improving its thermal performance. The new fa?ade consists of aluminum panels over continuous insulation and a vapor barrier, with high-performance windows that sit flush to the surface. Subtly influenced by the neighboring Woolworth Building, fluted articulations give its surface striking texture while its color dynamically changes with the sky.
